A move from old to new gives retirees peace of mind

MOVING from their 1930s detached home in Worcester to a brand new home in Evesham to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren was a lifestyle choice for Allan and Susan Wilkes.

The couple, both in their 60s, purchased a three-bedroom home at Elan’s Merrybrook Grange development, which Allan says means they can spend more time with family without worrying about maintenance on their home.

He said: “We liked the fact it is a small development with a lovely community feel.

“As our daughter and family live nearby, that influenced our decision to move to Evesham, but we also have a wider variety of shops close by, including community facilities and, in particular, doctor’ surgeries.

“Although we’d lived in an older 1930s property previously, we decided to buy a new build as we knew it would be low maintenance, energy efficient and environmentally friendly. It’s still early to compare on fuel bills but we have found it to be warmer than our previous house.

“While I do enjoy a spot of DIY, there won’t be anything I’ll need to do to the house itself and Susan can enjoy her hobby of gardening as we have a new garden that is a blank canvass.”

Buying from Elan also ensured a smooth process from reservation to moving in. When the couple enquired about the property, they received a visit from a sales manager in their own home to talk it through and, once they’d reserved, they were kept up to date at every stage of the build.

Allan added: “Our favourite room in the house is the kitchen / diner as it’s spacious and a good size for entertaining. We’ve also got a spare room for family coming to stay and plan to use the third bedroom as a study.”

For those thinking of making a move like Allan and Susan to Merrybrook Grange, there is a three-bedroom detached ‘Draycott’ show bungalow open to view, one of four bungalows available for sale at the  Pershore Road venture alongside two four-bedroom detached houses

Andre Nippe, sales director for Elan Homes in the South, said: “Merrybrook Grange is blossoming into such a friendly and close knit community and it’s been popular with downsizers who want to swap an older house for a safe and secure new build. Our homes provide buyers with the peace of mind that comes with knowing there is no work to do on their property, it’s completely stress-free and we will help every step of the way.”

Surrounded by open countryside, the charming Merrybrook Grange development is close to the town centre. With its ancient market square and winding side streets, Evesham boasts an excellent selection of shops, cafes and restaurants plus fabulous scenery, boating trips and walks along the River Avon.

Evesham Leisure Centre has a choice of pools plus a 100-station fitness suite, while golfers can choose from Evesham or Twyford golf courses. For convenience, there is a local shop close to the development.

Prices for a detached two-bedroom bungalow at Merrybrook Grange start at £234,995. The three-bedroom Draycott show home is priced at £270,995.
