Cheltenhams’s appeal as a ‘weekday bolthole’ intensifies
Parents keen to secure a weekday base in Cheltenham have created a spike in enquiries at an exclusive new homes development that’s located close to the town centre.
Elan Homes has taken enquiries from families keen to buy a second home at its exclusive St George’s Mews development, to serve as a weekday residence that places them within easy reach of the town’s revered education establishments.
Andrea Nippe, sales director for Elan Homes in the South, said: “Cheltenham has always held appeal with parents, who are drawn to relocate to the town centre to be close to its abundance of schools and colleges, which includes Cheltenham Ladies College, Cheltenham College and Pate’s Grammar School, to name a few.
“However, what’s interesting to us is the surge in enquiries from parents seeking a second property here – a weekday bolthole close to the town centre that offers the convenience of being near their child’s school and is commutable to work Monday to Friday – before they return to their primary family home in the country at the weekend.”
It’s been recently reported that Cheltenham is experiencing a revived property market with home buying in the spa town picking up and price rises of 7.2 per cent last year, according to Savills. Such a buoyant market, coupled with significant investment in the town itself, which includes a High Street facelift and the arrival of John Lewis in 2017, makes the historic town an even more attractive draw for home buyers.
This is certainly true in Elan Homes’ experience, as buyers have been quick to reserve almost half of the new properties at St George’s Mews. Based on St George’s Road, it is an exclusive development of just 12 properties in a range of three and four-bedroom designs that includes semi-detached, mews and detached residences.
Located within walking distance of the stunning spa town, St George’s Mews offers a high standard of living in an area voted by the Daily Telegraph recently as the number one place to raise a family.
Boasting traditional architectural character outside, inside the well-specified modern homes boast fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms and brand name appliances. They are energy efficient and easier to maintain than their older counterparts on the second hand market.
The three-bedroom Litton show home will open at the development later this summer.
Prices range from £300,000 for a three-bedroom, two-storey semi-detached Ashbourne house type to £385,000 for the 3-bedroom, three-story semi-detached Farringdon property.
The marketing suite is open Thursday to Monday, 10.30am to 4.30pm.
