Junior rugby team scores support from Elan Homes
GRASS roots rugby has been given a lift by Elan Homes as the housebuilder kicked off its sponsorship of Loughor Minis.
The housebuilder got the ball rolling by funding training tops for the 15 boys, who all play for the under 7s team.
Team coach Mark Davies, who also works as a bricklayer at Elan Homes’ Parc Gwyn Faen development in Gorseinon, was delighted with the donation of almost £400.
He said: “It’s fantastic to see a company supporting the local community in this way and the funding is certainly welcome. It’s enabled us to purchase a full set of new training tops to keep the boys warm through the winter months. They’re also proving to be lucky charms for us as we’re still unbeaten this season!”
A former Loughor RFC player himself, Mark’s two sons, aged five and seven, are following in their dad’s footsteps by playing for the club.
He added: “Rugby is hugely important to the local community here. It’s a great way for youngsters to keep healthy and really encourages a sense of team spirit. The boys really enjoy it and rarely miss a training session. We’ve got some great lads in the team and we’d like to think some of them will go on to be stars of the Wales team one day! Both myself and my fellow coach Bobby Seager are very grateful to Elan Homes for their help.”
Andrea Nippe, sales director for Elan Homes, said: “It’s an important part of our role as a home builder to support for the communities we’re building in. As Mark works on site he mentioned the team were looking for funding so we were more than happy to help out.”
