More ‘Home’ for your money in Bideford
HOUSE prices in Bideford soared 8% in the last year, but it’s still one of the most affordable places to live in North Devon, according to statistics.
An analysis of sold prices over the last year, available via property website Rightmove, shows values in Bideford were 8% up on the previous year, with the upturn stronger than the surrounding areas. For example in Barnstaple prices remained consistent with last year’s; in Northam, they were 3% up; and in Braunton, prices were 8% down on the previous year.
The sold prices were analysed by housebuilder Elan Homes. Sales director for the South Andrea Nippe said: “We looked at house prices for a number of surrounding towns and found that house prices overall and for detached homes in particular were among the most affordable in Bideford. In addition, property prices in Bideford have seen one of the biggest surges in the region over the last year of 8% proving that the market in the town remains strong.”
Offering a more affordable range of properties, Bideford’s average sold price of £184,164, was cheaper than nearby Barnstaple (£188,501), Westward Ho (£222,958), Northam (£223,957), Braunton (£235,665) and Appledore (£241,446).
When comparing just detached properties, a similar trend was seen with Bideford’s detached homes selling for an average of £254,478 compared to higher average prices on detached houses in Barnstaple (£265,444), Northam (£266,987) and Braunton (£298,507).
Andrea added: “We are building new homes in Bideford at our Kathleen Grange and May Court development and have ensured they are competitively priced compared with other properties, including the second hand market, while offering all the added benefits of being brand new including ease of maintenance, energy efficiency and modern fitted kitchens and bathrooms.”
