Work to begin on new Cheltenham homes

WORK on 14 new homes at an historic Cheltenham site is due to start in early September.

St George’s Mews will eventually feature 11 houses by Clevedon-based housebuilder Elan Homes.

The development will transform an unused area of land that was formerly part of the Spriax Sacro base on St George’s Road. The site is also well-known for once housing a clinic belonging to Edward Jenner, who pioneered the smallpox vaccination in the 19th century.

While the adjacent land has already been redeveloped to create a care home and assisted living apartments, Elan will be creating a new but traditional collection of private sale homes to blend with the style of other properties in the Gloucestershire town.

The development will provide a mix of three-bedroom townhouses and three-bedroom two-storey homes, all with garages and ranging from 900sq ft to 1,400 sq ft. There will also be one new two-bedroom coach-house apartment built.

Perfect for families, the venture is adjacent to a primary school and is just half a mile from Cheltenham town centre.

Elan will also be contributing over £60,000 towards local primary and secondary education, to enable nearby schools to expand to accommodate new residents.

Andrea Nippe, sales director for Elan Homes in the South West, said: “We have created a scheme that is in keeping with the town and preserves the character of this historic site, while inside the homes feature well-specified modern interiors with fully fitted kitchens and bathrooms and high quality appliances and accessories as standard. As a privately-owned company, our efforts are entirely focussed on our customers and designing properties to suit their lifestyles.

“We are delighted to be starting work on the development soon and look forward to launching sales later this year. We are building our solid reputation in Gloucestershire, having completed a high quality development in Wotton-under-Edge last year and a sought-after venture in Gloucester the previous year.”
