Improvements to two Flintshire schools will be made as a result of new homes being built in Higher Kinnerton.
Elan Homes has secured planning consent to build 56 homes on a 7.2 acre site south of Kinnerton Lane. Known as Kinnerton Meadows, it will offer 45 private sale and 11 affordable homes. Five of the affordable homes, including two bungalows, will be gifted to North East Wales Homes, owned by Flintshire County Council, while the other six will be sold as shared equity properties.
Along with building new homes, Elan has agreed to a package of investment in the local area for the benefit of the wider community.
Andrew Morgan, land director for Elan Homes in the North, explained: “As a niche developer we are well placed to deliver new homes to help meet local housing needs, but also recognise that it’s important to support those neighbourhoods by investing in the community. As we are largely building family homes at Kinnerton Meadows we will be investing in schools and play areas.
“This includes contributing almost £185,000 for the remodelling of music teaching facilities at Castell Alun High School, plus almost £135,000 for improvements to teaching accommodation at Higher Kinnerton CP School.
“We will also contribute £40,000 towards improvements to neighbourhood play facilities on Park Avenue.”
The private sale homes at Kinnerton Meadows will offer a choice of two, three, four and five-bedroom designs ranging in size from 675 sq ft to 1,766 sq ft.
The design of the homes is in keeping with the character of the local area with feature brick work included in a number of the properties
Existing pine trees at the frontage of the site will be retained within the public open space, providing an attractive focal feature. There will also be a tree-lined avenue into the site leading to a larger area of public open space including a local area of play.
New pathways will be created to link the new homes with the amenities in the village.
Elan is encouraging potential purchasers to register their interest in the properties before they’re released for sale.
Marie Morris, sales director for Elan Homes in the North, said: “We’re pleased to be back building in North Wales, with new homes at Argoed Gardens near Mold launching soon and work to prepare the land at Kinnerton Meadows for new homes now underway. Both schemes have been talked about locally for some time and there’s a growing sense of excitement from potential purchasers. Those who register their interest in Kinnerton Meadows now will be kept informed of our progress and will be given the pick of the properties when they’re released for sale.”
