ELAN RESCUES STALLED ILFRACOMBE HOMES SITE

ELAN Homes has stepped in to rescue a stalled housing development in the Victorian seaside town of Ilfracombe.

The housebuilder has acquired land off The Shields for which outline planning permission was granted more than five decades ago.

Work had begun on the site, with roads being started by previous developers, before coming to a standstill.

It is the latest North Devon development by Elan, which reaped success with its hugely popular The Gateway in South Molton where 150 homes were built.

Another property collection, Pickards at Larkbear, is part of a wider neighbourhood off Old Torrington Road in Barnstaple, and will eventually see 57 two, three, four and five-bedroom homes.

David Summers, regional manager director for Elan Homes, said: “It will be extremely rewarding to create more beautiful, brand-new homes in such a sought-after area of the country, helping to satisfy demand and keep the market strong and moving.

“To be developing a site that has previously been started and stalled, no doubt to existing residents’ frustrations, gives us great satisfaction.”

And he added: “We’re eager to start work on Seascape at the earliest opportunity to complete the development and offer high-quality homes that people want and need.”

Seascape will feature 51 two, three and four-bedroom bungalows and homes within walking distance of Ilfracombe town centre and boasts spectacular views of the Bristol Channel.

As part of the venture, Elan Homes plans to invest more than £300,000 in the area, with almost £170,000 being targeted towards education provision and £135,107 towards recreation.

Ilfracombe has several beaches, its own harbour, and cliffs offering plenty of coastal walks, while the town centre has a wealth of amenities with independent shops and supermarkets, galleries, bars and restaurants.
