YOUNG ARTISTS CELEBRATED FOR SHOWCASING WHY THEY LOVE LIVING IN POYNTON

THE winners of an art competition and exhibition celebrating the creativity and community spirit of Poynton have been announced.

Elan Homes invited local residents living on or near its Hazelfields development to interpret the theme “Why I Love Living in Poynton”.

Entries were welcomed in any medium, including drawing, painting, photography, collage and mixed media. Artists were also asked to submit a short caption explaining the inspiration behind their artwork.

Dozens of entries were received before Elan then created a temporary art gallery at Hazelfields where a curated selection of artwork was available to view with visitors encouraged to vote for their favourites.

The public vote saw Emily Bell, 13, and Lottie Rowland, six, crowned the winners, earning them a £50 Trafford Centre voucher each.

Emily was among members of Third Poynton Guides who took part in the competition, with her picture depicting Poynton Pool including a swan.

Emily said: "I like Poynton because it’s a friendly peaceful town with lots of nice areas to visit and spend time with my friends and family. I was inspired by Poynton Pool for my artwork as I like walking around and looking at the nature".

Lottie said: “What I love about Poynton is my lovely house – and the ice cream shop! I drew things I loved. I feel happy to have won the competition but sad for those who didn’t.”

Elan regional sales and marketing director Marie Morris said: “We’re grateful for everyone who took the time to enter the why I love living in Poynton art competition and who visited the exhibition and voted. It was a great opportunity for residents to express what makes the neighbourhood special and to celebrate the sense of community in the area. Every piece of artwork told a story about local pride, identity and belonging.”

For those looking for a new home in Poynton, Elan has plenty of choice from one-bedroom apartments to five-bedroom detached family homes. They offer a blank canvas with plenty of opportunity for personalisation, subject to build stage.
