NEW HOMES IN LEIGH SET TO RISE

WORK to create 34 new homes in Leigh is progressing well with the next major milestone in sight.

Elan Homes currently has contractors carrying out groundworks at Brook Gardens on Alderley Lane.

The 2.7 acre site was identified as having potential for housing by Wigan Council more than a decade ago under their local plan process.

Elan regional sales and marketing director Marie Morris said: “Under the supervision of an award-winning site manager, with three decades of experience, work at Brook Gardens is progressing well. There’s been lots of preparatory works, much of it below ground, and in the coming weeks there will be more visible progress as the homes start to take shape. In line with the build programme, we’ll soon be releasing select homes for sale and anticipate welcoming residents from late spring. Council assessments identified a strong need for two and three-bedroom homes in Leigh. Brook Gardens will help address that, offering a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes to appeal to first time buyers, families and downsizers.

The homes will include a host of energy efficient features including PV solar panels, waste water heat recovery systems, triple glazed windows and electric vehicle charging points.

The homes are being built in an established residential area, off the A574, Warrington Road, there are local amenities nearby including schools, while Leigh town centre is easily accessible.

A package of almost £60,000 of community investment, known as section 106 contributions, was agreed during the planning process.

This includes £26,000 for improvements to Pennington Hall Park; £20,000 for play space provision at Dootson’s Park and a Biodiversity Net gain contribution of £12,800 towards tree planting off site within the surrounding area.
